Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE)
HSIE is the study of human nature and the environment, exposing students to the way in which the human and natural worlds work and why they are the way they are today.
Students will complete two mandatory HSIE courses in Year 7 - 10 (Geography and History) and can select from a range of specialised HSIE courses in Year 11 and 12 including Ancient History, Modern History, Legal Studies, Society and Culture, Geography, Business Studies and Retail Services VET.
Students in Year 9 and 10 who particularly enjoy History have the option to select a History Elective in addition to the mandatory course.
The study of HSIE at Hastings Secondary College provides students with many opportunities not available elsewhere.
In Years 7-10 student can participate in excursions to local historical sites, create documentaries and museum exhibits and go on the popular Lady Musgrave Island trip.
Students who study Ancient History in Years 11 and 12 are offered the chance to go to Italy on an excursion which runs every two years.
