Hastings Secondary College Port Macquarie Campus made it to Round 3 of the North Coast 14’s Cricket Knockout in 2019 with wins over Wauchope and Camden Haven but unfortunately lost to Melville High. The team consisted of Lesley Smith, Cedar Barry, Kobe Chalmers, Taj Elliot, Evan Pitt, Jack Stace, Jackson Burnie, Phoenix Barnes, Abish Amada, Rylie Campbell, Sean Corcoran and Lachie Harrison.

The first match against Wauchope was a comprehensive victory. Lesley Smith scored 106 and Jack Stace 36 to help achieve a great innings total of 256 runs. Wauchope were bowled out for 89 with the wickets being shared by Taj Elliot, Lesley Smith, Evan Pitt and Jack Stace.

The second round match against Camden Haven was another comprehensive victory. Cedar Barry scored 42 runs, Jack Stace 39, Kobe Chalmers 20 and Taj Elliot 27 were the main scorers with the innings total being 209. Camden Haven were bowled out for 60 runs with Taj Elliot, Jack Stace and Jackson Burnie the main wicket takers.

Unfortunately Melville High were too strong for us in the third round. The heat and smoke led to the match being shortened to 25 overs each. We scored a very competitive 149 runs for only 2 wickets. Lesley Smith scored 43 runs, Kobe Chalmers 63 and Taj Elliot 23. However, the representative Melville batsmen were too difficult to get out and dominated our bowling attack. Melville scored the required runs in 15 overs with Taj Elliot being our only wicket taker.

The team played fairly and trained hard leading up to the competition and it is great to see some new talent in the Year7 boys. Hopefully we can reach further into the competition next year.
