In Week 7, 30 Year 7 and 8 Sport Academy students travelled with Mr Neilson and Miss Perkins to Sydney Academy of Sport for a three day camp. The group stopped in Newcastle on the way down and tested their bravery on the Adventure Ropes Course at Treetops. At the Academy of Sport in Narrabeen, the students participated in a range of activities including a nutrition seminar, fitness testing with state of the art testing equipment, strength and conditioning training and a recovery session, including a dip in the hot and cold spas. The students were lucky enough to not only watch the Manly Sea Eagles training, but also meet one of the players and kick the football with them. The excursion also included a visit to Olympic Park where the group watched the Sydney Roosters play the South Sydney Rabbitohs at ANZ stadium.
Annalise Woodham and Isla-Rose Heagney had this to say about their experience at the camp:
“It was such a great experience! Our favourite part of the excursion was learning how different methods of recovery are just as important as the actual training. We also learnt how nutrition plays a huge part in an athlete’s performance and how not maintaining a healthy diet can affect your body. We highly recommend that future Sport Academy students attend this camp.”
