ANZAC Day 2019

Welcome to Term 2, 2019.

I hope that you enjoyed a relaxed family time during the term break.

The college was well represented at the morning march on ANZAC Day. As in previous years we marched as part of the Hastings Valley Community of Schools. It is always a very impressive line-up of quality students from the college and from our partnership primary schools.

At the Dawn Service, Cameron Halmi, one of our Year 8 students delivered the address. It was a fantastic effort that was appreciated by numerous attendees on the morning. In the speech Cameron used information on the origins of the Dawn Service which occurred in Albany WA in 1923. He acknowledged Chaplin Mark Willis of the Australian Defence Force for supplying this information via a speech he made in 2011. I spoke to Mark yesterday. He had just returned from official duties at the Gallipoli Dawn Service. I told him of Cameron’s effort and he indicated that he was very pleased that we were supporting the ANZAC memory and acknowledging other defence personnel in striving for world peace. He congratulated Cameron on his work.

Port Macquarie Ironman was on this weekend. We had in excess of 140 students and teachers supporting the event by manning a water station. Thank you to everyone who volunteered.

On the last Friday of term 1 the Westport Campus organised an ‘Anti-Bully’ Day. The theme was ‘Super Hero’ and there was a gold coin donation that went towards supporting The Cancer Council through me competing in the Port Macquarie ‘Dancing with the Stars’. Students lead this event to support the college stance on bullying being an unacceptable practice in any environment.

Our new initiative of the ‘Parent Lounge’ will kick off at the beginning of this term. Parents / carers are invited to join us for a cup of coffee and talk to us about ways that we can continually improve college / campus / family communications and relationships. This event will take place on Friday 10 May at 8.15am and an afternoon session at 5.00pm. Please drop in, there is no need to RSVP.

A reminder that the P&C Meetings occur on the third Monday of each month at 6.00 pm at the campus. If you would like to be involved or you would like more information please contact me.
