Ian Ross

Welcome to our Hastings Secondary College, Westport Campus Newsletter for Week 2.

I have mentioned this before but I feel it is worth another visit. School Uniforms - I am pleasantly pleased with the number of times we are complemented on our student uniform by members of the public. It looks fantastic and the student body is happy to wear it. Thank you parents for supporting this important part of our school culture.

Academic Reports
Staff are starting to prepare for the Semester 2 reporting period. Student academic reports are essential in providing, both parents and students with current information as to where the student stands in their educational pathway. Please contact me if you require any further information around the academic reporting process.

School Spectacular
A number of our students will be representing us at the Schools Spectacular over the next few weeks. This event happens in Sydney and is broadcast on television. This event is another fantastic example of the quality of public education in NSW at the moment.

Parent Lounge
I extend an invitation to all parents and careers to share in a morning tea where we will discuss the current Mobile Phone Policy and you will have the opportunity to review the campus Anti-Bully Plan and provide feedback. This parent lounge session will take place on Friday 8 November at 8.30 am in the staff common room.

Koala Smart
We had the honour of being part of the inaugural Koala Smart program, a Tacking Point Lions Club initiative. Twenty five schools from the region took part in not just designing their own koalas, but coming up with initiatives to save the koala population in the region. The creativity within the projects is outstanding. We are very proud to announce that the Westport Campus team took out second place in the secondary schools competition.

World Teachers Day – Celebrating the contribution of our teachers
Today we recognised and presented awards to outstanding educators, who have been nominated by their peers as leaders in the profession.

Each day Hastings Secondary College Westport Campus teachers make a positive difference – creating opportunities for students, empowering the minds of young people and proudly teaching our future leaders, innovators and influencers.

World Teachers Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and thank teachers for the vital role they place inside our classrooms and outside in the community.

This year’s Westport Campus recipients are Hastings Secondary College Robotic Team – Paul King, Stephen Barnett, Todd Harrison, Andrew Dunn and Heidi Speers and Supported Learning teacher, Laoise DeBhaldraithe.

To our Year 12 students, you are nearly there! Keep studying, don’t give up! We are here for you and look forward to celebrating with you at your graduation night on 19 November.
