Welcome to the 2019 school year.
Over the Christmas Holiday period I was reflecting on what it is that makes a school effective in the way it serves the community. One of the key components is relationships. Positive workable relationships between students, students and teachers and between the campus / college and the community. For these relationships to exist and be able to support student growth and achievement there needs to be commitment from all involved. The communication needs to be clear and the language we use needs to be appropriate and supportive. Education is about collectively supporting learners to succeed in the direction they need to go. This important concept will be one of my focus areas as we move forward together through 2019.
The College Ceremony of Excellence Evening will be held on Tuesday the 12th of February at the Panthers Club. This event will recognise students who have excelled in the 2018 HSC along with other students who have achieved fantastic results at both the Westport and Port Macquarie Campuses. I encourage you to come along and support this event.
We are currently evaluating our planning process that will give the College direction for the next few years. The plan is modelled around three strategic directions.
- Learning for success
- Teaching for the growth of every student
- Leading to drive high expectations.
If you would like more information about the planning process please contact me at the Westport campus.
Our student numbers across the college continue to grow. These increased numbers allow us to expand the number of elective opportunities for our students. It is great to see that the local community is valuing what we do at Hastings Secondary College.
Thank you in advance for your support of the Westport Campus and of Hastings Secondary College during 2019. I am looking forward to working alongside you in the academic, cultural, social and emotional development of your student.
