Duncan

I would like to welcome everyone back to Term 2, although the start has been a little different than normal. We are really looking forward to reconnecting with our students as we move into the next Phase starting Monday.

It is important to note that students are to attend on their designated day only. (Please click the links below to refer to the info graphs outlining the days for each Year group). As always, the school will also cater for vulnerable students and the children of essential workers.

Note: our canteen will remain closed until further notice, therefore students are required to bring their own food / drink.

As COVID precautions are still very much in place, our aim is to support Year 11 & 12 with explicit teaching and preparing them for the HSC. The senior students will follow their normal timetable on the days they attend.

Our focus for the junior years (7-10) is to re-establish their connection with school, teachers & just as important, their friends.

We will be doing all that we can to keep both the students and staff safe. Some of these measures include a dramatic reduction in class sizes, measuring student temperatures and lots of hand sanitising. Explicit safety lessons will be covered at the start of the day and constant wiping of surfaces / computers will also be taking place. There has also been a further increase in cleaners being employed throughout the day for ongoing hygiene purposes. It is important for the students to understand that we will be enforcing social distancing in both the classroom & the playground. This is for everyone’s safety.

For the junior years, they will be still undertaking their ‘learning from home’ material while in class. Students are asked to bring their technology (charged) to school to access the online learning. We have also set up a number of computer labs in classrooms for students to use and as well, we are providing paper copies of the work.

As the situation is changing constantly, the College is currently working on a 2 week planning cycle, however we do have a long term vision for when the students all return. We, as a teaching profession are learning so much about ourselves, our students and how we can deliver our content. We are very optimistic that all students will be back in the near future, and this day cannot come soon enough.

I appreciate how difficult it has been for our families to balance work, supporting your child’s learning and running the day to day household commitments. I truly commend our families for what they have been through. In saying this, I am very grateful for the steps our Port Macquarie community has taken towards keeping us safe from this dreadful pandemic.

I really look forward to seeing the students on their designated Year group day next week.

 Please stay safe everyone.

 Regards,
