Outstanding Music Success

Congratulations on the successful selection of our Year 12 music student Jamie Henry. Jamie has been selected to perform at 'Bravissimo 2020,' an HSC showcase concert is to be held on 12 February 2020 at the Glasshouse, Port Macquarie. The selected students have been drawn from 50 schools in the area ranging between Great Lakes to Lismore and Port Macquarie to Armidale. Students were nominated as outstanding performers in their HSC Music course. This is a marvellous accolade not only for Jamie, but for our College. Our music staff members, Mr Heddles and Miss Farmer, are also to be commended on their dedication and commitment to their students.

Countdown to Christmas – Best Float Award!

Thank you to every individual who helped in establishing our amazing Countdown to Christmas Float. What a great Parade. The Community spirit was alive and well and the detail in some of the entries was amazing. My biggest thanks goes to the following people who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure we always look professional and organised.

  • Leanne Jeffery – who was the event organiser and pulled all of the Hastings Valley Community Schools together to create a very warm family event
  • Ben Moylan – who donated his truck and time to drive the float
  • Our LEAP students along, with Ms Leach and Mr Willaton, who decorated the float
  • Jacynta Moylan who choreographed our dancers
  • Mr Heddles for his outstanding music items and sound
  • Mr Ross – our Santa Claus
  • Towa Henry and Kingslee Marks for being our mascots
  • Lili McLean-Prosser and Makayla Stevens  for singing like angels
  • Anita and Brodie – our captains leading the way
  • Mr Phil Harris, Mr Tony Adams, Mr Brett Thurgate who proudly walked with us

And … a very special shout out to Mr Mark Strawn who sat with us as Elf supporting our College. Thank you Strawney.

Year 9 Camp

I have been told the Gold Coast trip has been very successful this year. The staff have been very impressed with student behaviour and have done us proud.

The vision for Year 9 camp was to allow students to get to know their peers, forge new friendships and to create a cohort that will look out for one another and to support each other as they enter the second half of secondary school. With over 1000 km of travel over five days under their belts, they’ve survived three theme parks and an escape room. Staff can confidently say that the camp was a success. The 88 students chased thrills, made new friends, ignited old friendships and gained empathy for their fellow peers. Year advisors Mrs Newbound and Mrs Smith were immensely proud of their cohort, their maturity and the many proud moments which were had. The Year 9 cohort would like to thank Mr Harrison, Mrs Kelly, SLSO Christine and Deputy Mr Lyttle for taking the time to join them on their latest adventure.

Attendance and Uniform

For all students, a reminder that attendance at school is compulsory and the last day for students is Wednesday 18 December. Any absences should be explained within seven days and if students need to have a partial absence, or leave early, a note must be brought to the front office before school. As we move toward the end of the year my expectation is that students are still wearing full school uniform. If they do not have correct attire, a note explaining this is required.

Our communication procedure

As a result of the recent bush fire activity, and in any case of emergency, please be reassured we will send out a text message to all parents informing them of any incidents and advise whether students need to be collected from school or not.

We ask students not to contact their parents directly on mobile phones. If a student would like to contact their parent to go home, they are asked to please visit the front office.

We also ask parents not to contact students directly on mobile phones but to contact the office first.

The coming weeks are very busy for staff and students.  Zenith Projects are being completed, reports written and planning for 2020 is underway. Some important dates to remember are Year 6 Orientation Day - Tuesday 3 December; CAPA showcase - Thursday 5 December; and Zenith exhibitions on Friday 6 December. I look forward to welcoming parents and families to the school for these events.
