Dear Parents and Carers,
I am very excited to have school life return to a relatively 'back to normal' mode, mostly because I have missed seeing all of the smiling faces and energy our students bring onto campus. As we prepare for the full time return to school on Monday 25th May, it's not hard to reflect on the last couple of months and the lessons we have learnt.
Firstly, my thoughts are with every family in our school community who may have lost a loved one during this time, those who are struggling with finances and those whose mental health has been impacted. Please contact us if there is anything we can do to support you.
My hope is that you are settled at home and rest assured we are very pleased your children will be joining us at school next week.
I truly believe there have been many positives that have come as a result of COVID-19. Time spent with family like never before.
The opportunity for me to get to know our students more through regular ZOOM and face to face conversations when they have been on site.
The recognition from you, the parents, that have sent messages and gifts to staff thanking them for their hard work.
The mantra "We are All in this Together" has meant just that. Never before have I felt such a sense of team work and belonging.
I am confident students will enjoy catching up with their friends and teachers as they engage in face to face learning. While there may be some initial nerves regarding our students returning, know that our staff will provide the reassurance of structure, stability and flexibility known to the children prior to the virus and lock down taking place.
To reiterate the advice from NSW Health, it is safe for children to return back to school. All mitigation cleaning and safe distancing practices will be followed at Hastings Secondary College.
We will maintain the measures and precautions we have put in place for the foreseeable future, including no assemblies and excursions.
I want to extend my sincere gratitude to you for your support, a heartfelt thank you. Our teachers and support staff, have gone above and beyond to continue the education of our students and we all look forward to continuing that learning face-to-face on Monday.
Further information and guidelines to support parents and carers for return to school next Monday can be found at the following link - https://www.hastingssecondarycollege.com.au/news-and-events/hastings-secondary-college-welcomes-back-students-monday-25-may
On Monday, we are asking for those students who borrowed a laptop computer from school during the time of ‘learning from home’ if they could please return them to the Library.
Our school canteen will also re-open for lunch 1 (only) each day next week. This will be reviewed on Friday in the hope we will be able to go back to normal hours shortly after.
