Principal Message Westport Campus

Another very exciting and busy week on the Westport Campus. Year 10 examinations began on Thursday and will continue into next week. As I have said before these examinations are an ideal opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learnt in specific subject areas and when they receive their results, to reflect on what they need to do to improve the outcomes in the future.

Our college is about aspiration of personal best. Irrespective of academic ability, if students strive for their personal best in what they do inside and outside the classroom, they will find themselves on the pathway to success.

Last Friday we inducted our 2020 campus leaders. The event was organised by Ms Underwood and Mrs Apthorpe and was well supported by family and friends. It was a great event. The leadership team also had a successful and informative trip to Sydney on Wednesday to attend a state-wide student leadership forum. An Excellent opportunity.

A number of students also enjoyed a trip to Sydney last week to attend Billy Elliot. Again another good opportunity for our students.

Teachers, Lloyd Godson and Jemma Stapleton took 5 students to New Zealand last week to compete in the Aquabots underwater robotics competition. A grant had been sourced to fund the trip. The team came away as Overall winners and have now been invited to compete in the USA in May 2020. Congratulations to all involved. Any win against New Zealand is a good win. The details of the event are outlined in this newsletter.

Thank you to the parents who attended our recent Parent Lounge session. Topics included an update on the mobile phone policy, feedback on the anti-bullying policy and curriculum initiatives across all year groups for writing.

The campus is open today. An update on the conditions will be sent to all parents and carers today after advice from the RFS.

Stay safe and look after each other.

Warm regards

Ian Ross
