College Connect wrapped up last week but not without highlighting the fantastic future of Hastings Secondary College. College Connect events involve a team of staff and students visiting each of our primary feeder schools to provide them with initial information and support in the Year 6 into 7 transition process.
The slide show presented on the night, detailed the myriad of both curricular and extracurricular programs that we offer at our College. The information was very well received by incoming students and their parents and is a testimony to the vast array of student and teacher talents in our school.
Additionally, the wonderful speeches by our current Year 7 students, who shared their experiences about their first weeks at our campus were also a highlight. Well done Jayda Allen, Denver Dixon, Lilly Taylor, Bethany Harrison and Imogen Lunn for delivering your insights.
A range of our student leaders also shared their experiences, and I thank Phoebe Flint, Lewis Kranitis, Heath Pritchard, Hunter Brent, Lili McLean-Prossser, Mikayla Stevens, Tyler Maslen, Taj Elliott, Lilly Carson and Towa Henry for being wonderful campus ambassadors.
It was great to hear back from our Zenith students in their recent involvement at the Sustainability Showcase held at Port Macquarie Racecourse. Students presented their projects which were prepared in the last week of 2018. They also came away with a range of goodies, including hot water bottles I understand! Thank you to Mrs Moylan and Mrs Reithmuller for your great work with the Zenith students.
Year 7 students are currently at the Great Aussie Bush Camp, and by all accounts, this has once again been highly successful in building positive relationships amongst students. Thank you to Mr Sanderson, Mr Rogers, Mr Stewart and Mrs Brennan for your organisation and supervision over three busy days.
Parent-Student Conferences (Parent Teacher Evening) will occur on Tuesday 26 March in our Campus hall and bookings are now available on the parent portal. Please utilise this opportunity to contact your child’s class teachers. If you have difficulty accessing the portal, please do not hesitate to contact our office staff for assistance.
At the February Port Macquarie P&C Association Meeting, a decision was made to change the current operations of the school’s canteen and Uniform Shop. This will involve moving to a school run uniform shop and a tender arrangement being established for canteen operations. Processes are currently being put in place to allow this transition with the intended implementation being from Day 1, Term 3 2019.
Finally, a reminder that all visitors to the school need to first report to the campus front office. This is a necessary safety measure that we have in place to look after all our students.
If you wish to contact your child or a staff member, please arrange this through our front office. Parents who wish to contact staff, the office staff will happily assist you in arranging an appointment.
