Port Macquarie Campus has had two more successful rounds in the Premier’s Debating Challenge to finish off the Term.
Firstly, the Year 9 and 10 team competed in Week 8 for their Round Two debate against Brisbane Waters Secondary College. The speakers in this round were Patch Rudd, Charlotte Mansfield and Makayla Iddles with Jorjabelle Munday acting as fourth speaker and team adviser. The team organised and articulated their argument well and won their second round. They will compete in their third round against Gosford High School early in Term 4.
The Year 7 and 8 team competed on Wednesday this week against the Macksville High School A team. Both teams had previously won both of their previous debates so it was going to be a close contest. Our speakers for the team were Abhishek Amada, Drew de Silva and Matilda Stewart with Matilda Miller as the fourth speaker and adviser and Oliver Horner as Chairperson. The team were less confident in the sport and health topic but presented a very clear argument that again impressed the adjudicator, winning them Round Three of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. They are the only team in the North Coast Zone 2 competition to win all three rounds. Next term they will compete in the knockout finals against the top performing schools from the other zones in the Premier’s Debating Challenge.
The teams would like to thank the Library and Food Tech staff for making their rooms available for the Zoom debates.
