The Open Girls Basketball team achieved outstanding results at the NSW CHS Knockout Gala day for a team with limited training under their belt.
Game one was a ‘nail biter’ where we lost by only one point to Melville High school in the dying minutes of the game. The girls put up a great defensive effort and were unlucky to lose.
In Game two, we were triumphant defeating the competition with a winning margin greater than ten points. The girls were driving the ball down the court with determination, sinking basket after basket to set up a great win.
Elizabeth Hincksman, a netballer of Year 8, displayed raw talent and determination. Chloe Templeman, an AFL player, showed her versatility and initiative on the court. Marianne Gona of Year 12 dazzled the crowd with her ‘no look reverse trick shot’ and Maddison Danet of Year 10 (a late edition to the team) shared her knowledge and tactics with the team.
Coach, Ms Schuj was very pleased to comment on the girls performance, "a stellar and inspiring effort from the team who represented Westport Campus with pride. The girls were a pleasure to coach. Well done girls, I am so proud of you."
Congratulations to Brooke Sheather of Year 12 and Phoebe Brown of Year 11 for achieving selection in the LNC Open Girls Basketball Team. The girls will be participating in the North Coast selection trials in the coming weeks.
