The Hastings Secondary College Table Tennis Team finished 9th at the Country High School (CHS) Finals in Sydney. The team consisted of Nick Rudd, Jack Agland, Jesse Gill and Zac Morgan (Westport Campus). The boys played their best against difficult opposition in the more challenging pool of the draw. Being the only country team in this pool meant we would struggle against the more experienced Sydney teams. Our final match was against Kiama, the only country team we played, in the play off for 9th/10th which we won convincingly 4-0. Our goal of placing higher than 8th (where we finished in 2018) wasn’t achieved but this wasn’t through a lack of effort from the boys.
The teams in our pool included Sydney Boys High where all of their team were in the NSW squad and Nick’s opponent was ranked number 2 in NSW under 18s, Castle Hill, James Rouse High and Prairiewood High. The highlight of the day was Nick Rudd playing against Castle Hill’s number 1 (also a NSW player) where he showed he is much more than a trick shot master and earned much recognition by the other players watching.
2020 will see a new line-up to the team with Jesse and Jack finishing school. Their efforts have been commendable. Well done to all of the boys and hopefully we can get to the CHS Finals again next year.
