2020 Youth Summit

On 15 September members of the SRC participated in the 2020 Youth Summit run by Port Macqarie Hastings Council. The conference was held via Zoom and participants came from most schools in the area. The major theme was the issue of sustainability and how this region could become more sustainable by 2050. The students who participated were met with tough challenges that required deep thinking, co-operation and thorough explanation of their ideas and projects.

Using the theme of sustainability, the SRC successfully explained their ideas of how, and what, Port Macquarie needs to create a sustainable future. The end result was a project to create a community complex called The Garden which tackled the ideas of environmentalism, sustainability, community involvement and being carbon neutral. The SRC designed the complex to be self-reliant, funded and managed – encouraging the wider community of Port Macquarie to be involved in going green and grow their own produce.

This was one of the outstanding ideas that the Port Macquarie Campus came up with. We enjoyed the day and would like to thank Port Macquarie Hastings Council for inviting us to be part of Think 2050.
